Made for foodservice

For the people preparing, serving, and supervising food.

Build food allergy awareness across your kitchen and service team. This course focuses on practical knowledge for managers, food handlers, and servers.

  • Owners and persons in charge: strengthen the knowledge you use to lead staff and handle allergy requests.
  • Managers and supervisors: support consistent communication between the front of house and kitchen.
  • Cooks, servers, and other team members: learn practices relevant to food preparation and guest service.

Choose training that fits your duties and your employer’s expectations. If a specific course or credential has been requested, confirm it before enrolling.

Know the distinction

Build allergen knowledge for your team’s responsibilities.

North Carolina’s Food Code requires the person in charge to ensure that food employees receive food safety training, including food allergy awareness, as it relates to their assigned duties. This standalone certificate is a supplemental training option, not a substitute for your establishment’s responsibilities.

  • Employee training: build practical knowledge of allergen risks and pair it with procedures and instruction specific to each employee’s work.
  • Person-in-charge knowledge: the Food Code’s demonstration-of-knowledge provisions include major food allergens and symptoms of allergic reactions.
  • Separate manager credential: this course does not award food protection manager certification or replace other credentials required for your role.

Confirm your employer’s and local health department’s requirements before enrolling. Course completion alone does not guarantee that your establishment meets every applicable food-safety requirement.

North Carolina allergen awareness FAQs

How much does the course cost?

Tuition through On Focus Solutions is $19.95 per learner. The course includes online training, an assessment, and a downloadable certificate after successful completion.

Is this allergen awareness certificate mandatory in North Carolina?

Always Food Safe lists its standalone North Carolina course as not mandatory. North Carolina’s Food Code does require food allergy awareness training appropriate to employees’ duties, so optional purchase of this particular certificate does not mean workplace training is optional. Confirm your employer’s and local health department’s requirements before enrolling.

How can this course support my workplace training?

The lessons can help managers, cooks, servers, and other team members recognize major allergens, understand symptoms, communicate allergy requests, and reduce cross-contact. Use the course alongside role-specific instruction and your workplace’s procedures, rather than treating the certificate as proof of complete regulatory compliance.

Who produces the course, and is it accredited?

The course is produced by Always Food Safe and offered through On Focus Solutions. Always Food Safe’s Allergy Awareness certificate program is ANAB-accredited. Accreditation applies to the provider’s program; it is not a North Carolina-issued license or individual ANAB accreditation.

How long does the training take, and which languages are available?

Allow approximately 1 hour for the online video training. The course is available in English and Spanish. Choose carefully: the provider does not allow you to switch languages after starting.

What does the final assessment include?

The final online assessment has 40 multiple-choice questions. Complete the learning material and chapter questions, then follow the passing requirements shown in your course. Your certificate is available after successful completion.

How long is the course certificate valid?

Always Food Safe lists a three-year certificate term. This is the provider’s certificate term, not a North Carolina requirement to renew this optional certificate every three years. Check your issued certificate and your employer’s training expectations.

Will I receive a downloadable certificate?

Yes. After completing the training and passing the assessment, you can download your certificate as a PDF and save or print it.

Does this replace North Carolina food protection manager certification?

No. This is a focused allergen awareness course produced by Always Food Safe. It does not award food protection manager certification or replace other required food-safety credentials. If a manager or person-in-charge course has been requested, confirm the exact requirement before enrolling.

What if I am unsure which course to choose?

Confirm your employer’s or regulator’s requirements before purchasing. For help selecting or registering for this course, contact On Focus Solutions.
