Made for foodservice
For the people preparing, serving, and supervising food.
Build food allergy awareness across your kitchen and service team. This course focuses on practical knowledge for managers, food handlers, and servers.
- Owners and persons in charge: strengthen the knowledge you use to lead staff and handle allergy requests.
- Managers and supervisors: support consistent communication between the front of house and kitchen.
- Cooks, servers, and other team members: learn practices relevant to food preparation and guest service.
Choose training that fits your duties and your employer’s expectations. If a specific course or credential has been requested, confirm it before enrolling.
Know the Washington requirements
Build allergen knowledge for your team’s responsibilities.
Washington requires food employees to receive food safety training, including food allergy awareness, appropriate to their assigned duties. This focused course can support that learning, but it must be paired with instruction about your establishment’s ingredients, procedures, and allergy communication.
- Allergen awareness: strengthen your knowledge of major allergens, symptoms of allergic reactions, guest communication, and cross-contact prevention.
- Food Worker Card: this course does not issue or replace Washington’s Food Worker Card, also called a Food Handler Permit.
- Manager certification: this course does not award the separate Certified Food Protection Manager credential required for most food establishments.
Washington does not require purchase of this particular course. Confirm your employer’s expectations and applicable health department requirements before enrolling. A certificate alone does not establish full regulatory compliance.

Washington allergen awareness FAQs
How much does the course cost?
Tuition through On Focus Solutions is $19.95 per learner. The course includes online training, an assessment, and a downloadable certificate after successful completion.
Is allergen awareness training required in Washington?
Yes. Washington requires employees to be trained in food safety, including food allergy awareness, as it relates to their assigned duties. Purchasing this particular standalone course is not required by the state. Use it to support allergen knowledge alongside training on your workplace’s menu, ingredients, procedures, and communication practices.
How can this course support my workplace training?
The lessons can help managers, cooks, servers, and other team members recognize major allergens, understand symptoms, communicate allergy requests, and reduce cross-contact. Use the course alongside role-specific instruction and your workplace’s procedures, rather than treating the certificate as proof of complete regulatory compliance.
Who produces the course, and is it accredited?
The course is produced by Always Food Safe and offered through On Focus Solutions. Always Food Safe’s Allergy Awareness certificate program is ANAB-accredited. Accreditation applies to the provider’s program; it is not a Washington-issued license or individual ANAB accreditation.
How long does the training take, and which languages are available?
Allow approximately 1 hour for the online video training. The course is available in English and Spanish. Choose carefully: the provider does not allow you to switch languages after starting.
What does the final assessment include?
The provider lists 40 multiple-choice questions and a passing score of 75%. Complete the learning material and chapter questions before the final assessment. Your certificate is available after successful completion.
How long is the course certificate valid?
Always Food Safe lists a three-year certificate term. This is the provider’s certificate term, not a Washington requirement to renew this optional certificate every three years. Check your issued certificate and your employer’s training expectations.
Will I receive a downloadable certificate?
Yes. After completing the training and passing the assessment, you can download your certificate as a PDF and save or print it.
Does this replace a Washington Food Worker Card or manager certification?
No. This course does not issue a Washington Food Worker Card or Food Handler Permit, and it does not award Certified Food Protection Manager certification. Those are separate credentials with their own requirements. Confirm which credential your employer needs before purchasing.
What if I am unsure which course to choose?
Confirm your employer’s or regulator’s requirements before purchasing. For help selecting or registering for this course, contact On Focus Solutions.
